How a DNA identification is confirmed
A laboratory compares your reference sample with a sample taken from unidentified remains. Only the responsible authority can confirm an identification, and it is recorded here with the laboratory report and the authority's own reference. Where remains have already been buried, the burial site and visiting arrangements are shared with the relatives the case has authorised.
